Which teaching is more important cooperation or competition?
Competition is not innate. It is a learned behavior. Hunting is competition (to kill or be killed). It is learned, and taught. It is also animalistic. Competition has no mind.
Cooperation is a higher level. It is a group of people cooperating together for a common good.
Because of quicker, and your so called better (competition), society is still using fossil fuels. Quicker does not necessarily mean better especially when money profits are to be gained. The gulf of Mexico oil spill is the latest example. One should not drill (quickly) unless all the unforeseen difficulties can be assessed, and safely eliminated. This has to be understood not only for the present moment but for our children's children inheritance of the planet's natural resources. Currently on this planet there are 1 million people that are staving every day. 47 million Americans without medical insurance, of which 18,000 die each year from an illness that could have been prevented or cured. Do you think that is from cooperation. No it is because of competition. Competition creates scarcity on purpose, to impose desperate-ness, to control the masses. Just because all corporations do this does not make it right.
A quick fix and non caring attitude are the hallmarks of competition. Natural resources cannot be replaced! You say "its competition that helps us build it quicker and better (and perhaps tear down our competitor's society"). Did you mean like Hitler, or like Wal-Mart when it puts all the Mom and Pop stores out of business, and then forces Mom and Pop to work for Wal-Mart at minimum wage? Tearing down is quicker, but does not better anyone other than oneself. Of course it is quicker to invade another country, kill its military, and innocent civilians (Women and children) , steal their resources, and tear down their society than it is to responsibly find a way to share (cooperation) the earths natural resources. Killing and hurting people is child like, not adult like. It is madness. Animals like to piss on things to say this is my territory. Other animals come to smell and know that another animal has been there. Competition is nothing more than a pissing contest.
In martial arts competition, what does one gain by defeating another? The other's hate, feelings inferiority, and sadness? You might say that the defeated one learns from their mistakes. Perhaps this is so, but there will always be someone better. Better looking, more proportionate, perhaps more artistic, taller, shorter. No, to live in competition is to live in comparison, which will only bring dissatisfaction and misery. Would it not be better to make a friend, and gain a persons love than thier quick defeat? Would it not be better to be happy as we are right now?
Do our kidneys compete against our liver for more of the blood supply? If that were so we would not have long to live. Our planet is one body. All the lines imposed on this planet are man created and out dated! So is War! The lines imposed by man on the earth are imaginary. If you look at the earth in space there are no lines. If we truly want peace on this planet all that has to be done is to take away the lines. There will be no more need to fight. They are imaginarily used to keep up the pissing game.
You say here we go down the yin/yang path again. Perhaps we all need to walk that path a little longer until we find your balance (cooperation).
Killing and hurting people is child like, as is competition.Is not War (competition) like two babies playing for one block? The babies compete for the block because they do not know any better. Adultbehavior knows better. Adult behavior learns how to share. How to cooperate. If Adult behavior does not know better then it is child like. One should not be called an adult.
War is a very cunning word used to cover the nakedness of killing. Adults have used cunning words for centuries to manipulate the masses for selfish, and profitable reasons. This is child like behavior might have worked well up to and about 35 years ago, but now it is out dated, it is competitive, and it is an injustice to Humanity.
One could argue of the many so called innate behavior of humans, however that does not make injustice, selfishness, and manipulation in the name of competition and innateness correct.
Were are we going with this? We are now creating the technology to go to other Planets.Are we going to spread flags and draw lines on the moon, on mars, and so on? It is just stupid, ridiculous, and child like. Will humanity continue its wars for the financial profits of the few, and the expense and deaths of the many. Using the word competition does notmake fighting right. No, humanity must grow into a cooperation if humanity is to survive.
The philosophicalroots of the Martial arts has always been in the path of truth, and the all as being one. Respecting nature, natural resources, and each other. The overall truth of this path has been taken away and replaced with violence, UFC, Tournaments, and bragging rights. All for profit.
We are all one. What is the need for so much fighting? Using our technical advances, not being blinded by the illusion of created scarcity that raise prices for profits, there are enough resources to cover all of humanity. Technology can create a substitute for any scarcity.
Mastering oneself begins within. We have enough competition going on within us. The greatest opponent is not to be found in a tournament it is it to found within. There will always be someone better than you. Only the greatest financial profits are found in competition.
Finding that which goes beyond the yin and yang of it is to find your true self. Free from competition, cooperation, should and should not. When one finds this true self, this inner peace, cooperation is a given. It is a given, and for no reason at all. Cooperation, and life is a given to us and for us by the earth and life itself for no reason at all. There is no financial profit in it. In fact if the earth and our bodies did not cooperate we would not exist at all. It is a wholeness. A oneness. We all have the potential to experience this, but not all will. Unless we all wake up I doubt for the survival of the human race.
